ANZCOR is seeking Expressions of Interest for volunteers to join our Guideline Development Groups (GDG). These positions are for people living and working in Australia or New Zealand.

1. Background

Australian and New Zealand Committee on Resuscitation (ANZCOR)

The Australian and New Zealand Committee on Resuscitation (ANZCOR) is a collaboration between the Australian and New Zealand Resuscitation Councils to continuously review science and create high-quality, evidence-informed guidelines to inform first-aiders, first responders and healthcare professionals in their daily clinical practice. ANZCOR is a member of the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) which reviews the published science on resuscitation and first aid and makes treatment recommendations based on that science.

The Board of ANZCOR has decided to establish Guideline Development Groups to coordinate the ANZCOR guideline development and review process. Guideline Development Groups will be established for:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  •  First Aid (FA)
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS)
  •  Paediatric Life Support (PLS)
  •  Newborn Life Support (NLS)
  •  Education, Implementation and Teams (EIT)
  • Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS)

 

2.  Term of appointment

These are voluntary positions. The initial term of appointment is one year – with subsequent appointment depending on satisfactory performance – reviewed by Chair of the GDG, in consultation with the Chair of the ANZCOR Scientific Advisory Committee.

 

3. Membership

Each Guideline Development Group will have the following appointments:                         

  •        Chair (already appointed)
  •        Deputy Chair (already appointed)
  •        Up to 10 other members with scientific and clinical expertise relating to the topics addressed by the Guideline Development Groups

 4.        Purpose

Each Guideline Development Group will coordinate activities associated with ANZCOR guideline development. This will involve, but not be limited to, activities relevant to the continuous evidence evaluation process of guideline development and include:

 

  • Integration of International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) Consensus on Science with Treatment Recommendations (CoSTR) into  ANZCOR guidelines.
  • Formulating and prioritising Patient, Intervention, Comparison and Outcome (PICO) questions for evidence evaluation.
  • Working with other content experts, systematic reviewers and information specialists to formulate search strategies for PICO questions.
  • Providing expert support, including participation as systematic reviewers, in a  timely manner for the evidence evaluation process and the development of the guidelines.
  • Making recommendations regarding gaps in research in resuscitation science.
  • Periodic review of ANZCOR guidelines for concordance with contemporary evidence
  • Contributing to authorship and editing of proposed changes to ANZCOR guidelines
  • Complying with conflict-of-interest principles.

 

5. Expectations

The GDGs will meet online, as required, and it is anticipated that meetings will be  scheduled every 2-3 months - with an expectation that GDG members will attend - where possible. 

It will be expected that each GDG member will contribute to revising or writing a minimum of two guidelines each year. The expected time commitment will be approximately 100 hours pa.

7. Selection Criteria

Successful applicants will be assigned to each GDG based on expertise and preference; and may be assigned to a GDG other than their first choice.

If applicants are equally qualified for appointed positions, the following priorities will be considered in the selection process:

  • Balance of scientific and clinical expertise across GDGs
  • Balance of representation across disciplines, gender and ethnicity
  • Diversity across career levels (early, mid, senior)

 

a.        Essential criteria

i.  Content expertise in areas covered by at least one GDG (Currently First Aid, Education Implementation and Teams, Basic Life Support, Advanced Life Support, Paediatric Life Support, Newborn Life Support, Acute Coronary Syndrome).

ii.  Expertise in critical review of clinical research

iii.  Ability to work collaboratively within a team

 

b.       Desirable criteria

i.  Experience in development of evidence-based guidelines in a health field

ii.  Expertise in GRADE methodology (or willingness to learn)

iii.  Expertise in conducting systematic reviews / scoping reviews / integrative reviews

 Please write EOI_GDG_*** in the subject line, where ***is either ALS; BLS; PLS; NLS; FA; EIT; FA.

  1.  A two-page summary clearly stating in the first line to which GDG you are applying for (and your second preference) AND addressing the Essential and Desirable selection criteria (above).
  2. CV identifying your contact details, qualifications (year of completion & institution), current and previous employment (last 10 years), publications (last 10 years), research grants (last 10 years) and any evidence-based guidelines that you have contributed to including your role in their development.
